Debbie Swartzel
Getting Comfortable with Modern Quilting

GeoStar Gem

Have you shied away from modern quilting because it seems to break all the rules?
Let’s explore some elements of modern quilting. From asymmetry to negative space, once the elements are better understood you’ll find that modern and traditional quilting are not so different from one another. You might even find that there’s a little bit of modern quilter in you, too.

About Debbie

While a relative newcomer to quilting, Debbie Swartzel is no stranger to having a needle and thread in her hands. Over the last 35 or so years some sort of needlework project has been within easy reach. Debbie has won awards and recognition for her work in cross stitch and knitting, sewn both garments and home decor and dabbled in needlepoint before turning her creative energy to quilting in 2014.

As a self avowed life long learner, Debbie has actively pursued a wide variety of quilting styles and techniques and is currently exploring both long arm quilting and quilt design using EQ8. She has an appreciation of all quilting styles but finds herself leaning toward a modern aesthetic whether in machine or English Paper Pieced works. Her English Paper Pieced quilt Round We Go won best of show at the 2018 Catawba Valley Quilters Guild Quilt Show.
